QB Reads Quiz
Each question gives you a passing concept, the coverage and what a defender does. You pick where the ball goes. Then you see why.
Question 1 of 12

Curl against Cover 3: a curl outside and a flat route inside. The flat defender widens with the route to the flat and the hook defender stays inside. Where does the ball go?
How Reads Work
Almost every passing concept is built to put one defender in a bind: a flat defender who cannot cover the curl and the flat, a safety who cannot take the post and the corner route. The quarterback reads that defender, feels the next one and throws to the route the defense can no longer cover.
That is what these questions drill. If you know which defender the concept is reading, you know the answer before the ball is snapped.
Common Questions
Who is this quiz for?
High school and youth quarterbacks, flag quarterbacks and the coaches and parents working with them. It assumes you know the basic coverages; start with the coverage pages if you do not.
Are these the reads every team uses?
They are the standard reads for each concept. Some programs coach a different order or tag the routes differently, so go with your coach where they differ.
