Hitch Concept (Hitch-Seam)

The hitch concept pairs a quick hitch outside with a seam from the slot, so you get a quick throw and a vertical shot from the same look.

How the Hitch Concept Is Built

In Crucible's Hitch, the outside receiver stops at 6 yards and the slot's seam reads the safeties at 10 to 12 yards, splitting two high safeties or holding its path against one.

What It Beats

  • Off corners in Cover 3 and quarters, with the hitch thrown on rhythm.
  • Cover 3, when the Curl/Flat defender widens to the hitch and leaves the seam.
  • Cover 2 Tampa, with the seam splitting the safeties on the side the Mike does not take.

How the QB Reads It

Crucible's Hitch is a Best-Look read: check for free access to the hitch before the snap, then read what the coverage shows. Against one high (MFC), key the post safety for any lean toward the seam, then read the defender between the hitch and the seam: staying inside with the seam, throw the hitch; widening to the hitch, throw the seam.

Against Cover 2 Tampa, find the Mike, then work to the opposite safety. Against Cover 4, check the safety to confirm it is not Cover 3, then the same underneath read. Against a buzz rotation, read the safety rotating down. Against Cover 6, read each half on its own.
