Seam Route
A seam is a vertical route by an inside receiver up the space between the outside and middle deep zones. In Crucible it adjusts to the safeties at 10 to 12 yards.

How the Seam Is Run
The slot or tight end releases up the hash and reads the safeties. Against MFO (two high safeties, middle of the field open), the route bends inside to split them. Against MFC (one post safety in the middle), the receiver holds the vertical line away from that safety.
What It Beats
- Cover 3, when the Curl/Flat defender doesn't carry the seam and the post safety is held.
- Cover 2 Tampa, where the seam splits the two deep halves on the side the Mike does not take.
- Linebackers in man coverage on a tight end or slot.
