Post Route

A post is a vertical stem that breaks inside toward the goalposts, at 15 yards in Crucible's diagram. It attacks the deep middle, which makes it the natural answer to defenses that leave the middle open, like two-high (MFO) coverages.

How the Post Is Run

The receiver pushes vertically to sell the go, then breaks inside at a shallow angle and keeps running. Lead the receiver into the space between the safeties.

What It Beats

  • MFO (two-high) coverages such as Cover 4 and Cover 6, when the safeties widen or are held by other routes.
  • Man coverage with an inside release.
  • MFC (single-high) coverage when the post safety is held by a seam or pulled away.
