Comeback Route
A comeback drives deep, 15 yards in our diagram, then breaks back toward the sideline and the line of scrimmage. It punishes defenders worried about the deep ball, putting the catch on the sideline where only one defender can get there.

How the Comeback Is Run
The receiver sells a go until the defender turns and runs, then plants and comes back toward the sideline at an angle. Throw to the outside shoulder, away from the defender.
In Crucible's diagram it converts to a vertical (the dotted path) against a cloud corner sitting short, as in Cover 2 Tampa, since there is no point stopping in front of a defender who is already there.
What It Beats
- Off coverage and bailing corners, especially Cover 3 corners playing a deep third.
- Man coverage when the corner opens the hips to run.
