Flag football coverage

Cover 2 in Flag Football

Flag and 7v7 Cover 2 puts two safeties deep, each with half the field. The corners sit short in the flats and the linebackers drop to the middle zones. The corners take away the short outside throws, so attack the sideline hole behind them and in front of the safety, or the middle between the levels.

How It Works

At the snap the safeties drop to their deep halves, both corners stay shallow and wide in the flats, and the linebackers settle into the middle hook zones.

What Beats It

  • The sideline hole between the squatting corner and the safety: corner and sail routes.
  • The seams and the deep middle between the two safeties.
  • A Low-High on the corner: one route underneath and a deeper one behind the corner.

How to Recognize It

Two safeties deep and wide, with the corners close to the line and outside the receivers.
