Flag football coverage

Cover 1 in Flag Football

Cover 1 in flag and 7v7 is man-to-man on every receiver with one safety deep as help over the top. In Crucible's diagram the corners and linebackers lock onto the four wide receivers, one safety comes down to take the center (an eligible receiver in 7v7), and the other rotates to the deep middle.

How It Works

Each underneath defender picks up one receiver and stays attached through the route, while the deep safety guards the middle against anything thrown over the top.

What Beats It

  • Crossers and rubs that force defenders to fight through each other.
  • Your best receiver isolated outside, away from the safety.
  • Quick throws to a receiver who already has leverage on the defender.

How to Recognize It

One safety deep in the middle and a defender lined up directly on each receiver. Send a receiver in motion: a defender who follows it across the formation means man.
