# Go Route

A go route, also called a fly, streak or vertical, is a straight sprint down the field. Even when it isn't the target, it forces deep defenders to respect it and clears space underneath.

## How the Go Route Is Run

The receiver runs straight upfield, usually a few yards inside the sideline to leave you room to throw. Against press, the receiver fights to get on top of the defender; against off coverage, eats the cushion fast.

## When to Throw It

- One on one outside against man with no deep help to that side.
- Against Cover 3, when a seam holds the post safety and the corner can't stay on top.
- When a defender jumps a shorter route and leaves the deep ball open.

## Its Other Job

Usually it is a clear-out. In Stick it runs the corner off so the short routes underneath have room.
